Metzelers New MC360 Motocross Tyre
Metzeler have launched the new MC360 tyre, aimed squarely at motocross and other off-road riders. Complete technical specifications and sizes are yet to be published, but Metzeler says n it's ress release that the tyre will be available in a mid-soft and a mid-hard and will be homologated for road use.
What They Say
According to Metzeler, the number ‘360’ in the product name “emphasises the all-round abilities” of the tyre in any type of soil or climatic condition as well as its ability to offer excellent grip no matter what. “The new MC 360 has been developed to ensure maximum performance from soft soils and sand, up to abrasive, rocky surfaces – in fact, every sort of mixed terrain found in the course of a long cross country track.”The manufacturer says the mid-soft option offers “unprecedented” traction on soft ground, while the mid-hard pattern provides good resistance to tearing on hard surfaces.
Metzeler also say that all tyre sizes in the MC360 range are reversible and can be used in both directions of rotation. When the tread knobs are worn the rider can reverse the direction of rotation, extending tyre life.
How They Proved Their Point!
What better way to test an Off Road tyre than to test it properly Off Road. This is how Metzeler did it:
"METZELER MC 360™ with the Honda Africa Twin and CRF450RX established three World Records climbing the Nevado Ojos del Salado volcano, at the border between Argentina and Chile, the highest volcano in the world
1) From zero to 5900 metres above the sea level in less than 24 hours
2) 5960 metres as maximum height for a twin-cylinder motorcycle
3) 5977 metres as maximum height reached with a motorcycle in less than 24 hours
The team of this record expedition was composed of Salvo Pennisi, METZELER’s Head of Testing Department, Carlo Fiorani, Honda’s Head of Racing Communications, the industry journalists Francesco Catanese and Karsten Schwers, and Fabio Mossini, the enduro champion now part of the Honda Sud America team.
The adventure in Chile represented the final and most severe testing of the new METZELER MC 360™, a range of products dedicated to Motocross, Supercross, Cross-country, Non-F.I.M. Enduro and Freestyle."
